Important Update: Changes to International Shipping

Over the past several years, we’ve proudly shipped NZProtein products to customers around the world — particularly Australia. We’re incredibly grateful for the support from our overseas customers and the trust you’ve placed in our brand.

However, we need to share an important update.

Within the next month, we will be suspending international shipping services and will be focusing solely on serving customers within New Zealand.

Why We’re Making This Change

There are two main reasons behind this decision.

1. New Government Export Tax

The New Zealand Government has introduced a new export charge on low-value goods leaving the country. While officially referred to as a “levy,” it is effectively a tax applied per shipment.

For small, direct-to-consumer parcels, this adds additional cost to every single order exported from New Zealand, and the costs to ship from NZ are already incredibly high.

2. Increasing International Freight Costs

We use DHL, and we genuinely believe they provide an excellent service. Their reliability, speed, and tracking systems are outstanding.

However, international freight costs have risen substantially over the past few years. When combined with:

  • Fuel surcharges
  • Handling fees
  • Export documentation requirements
  • Staff time preparing international labels
  • The new government export tax

…it has become increasingly difficult to justify continuing overseas direct-to-consumer shipping, without huge price increases.

Staying Focused on What We Do Best

At NZProtein, our priority has always been:

High-quality ingredients

Fair pricing

Fast local dispatch

With >95% of orders per day within New Zealand compared to a small number internationally, it makes commercial sense to focus our time, energy, and resources on serving our domestic customers as efficiently as possible.

This change allows us to:

  • Simplify operations
  • Keep pricing competitive
  • Reduce administrative overhead
  • Maintain our service standards

What This Means for International Customers

If you are an overseas customer and would like to place an order before international shipping closes, you will still be able to do so over the coming weeks.

We will provide a final confirmed date shortly.

In the future, we may explore alternative distribution models (such as wholesale or local partnerships), but for now, we are simplifying and focusing on New Zealand.

Thank You

To our Australian and other international customers — thank you sincerely for your support. We truly appreciate every order you’ve placed with us.

Business decisions aren’t always easy, but they must be practical and sustainable.

As always, our focus remains on delivering the best possible products at the best possible value — right here at home.
