Cheap Protein NZ

This product is a value protein powder made from New Zealand milk protein. Milk protein naturally contains both whey and casein.

At the moment whey is very expensive and this product has been made to try to offer a cheaper alternative to our flagship New Zealand Whey.

Our NZ Whey is better nutritionally, but this product is decent and it's cheaper. It tastes and mixes alright.

In this economy, the value for money is hard to beat! Couple points to raise. This version is a bit more foamy than the regular Whey. At the time, I purchased the Double Chocolate, and while it smells amazing (similar to Dutch coco-powder), the flavour is a bit on the weak side, so I would suggest adding less water / milk. Otherwise great compromise, light feel and easy to drink.

Please bring out more flavours!

I was pleasantly surprised after reading that the Value protein is different to the Whey. But as my money doesn't grow on a tree I decided to try it. So glad I did. Very happy with this product. It is different but since I use it only in only one or two things, like porridge for example, it's fine

Good price, but labelling is not up to scratch. It's not very clear what type of protein(s) and how much of each is contain, but it is inferred it is casein on the website.
Would prefer there was more clear info both on packaging and website.
If I have to play detective I'm more likely to go looking else where.

This tastes way better than value whey.
A difference is this makes a more viscous (thicker) drink. Goes well with smoothies. Can also be used as an additive in some savoury foods.

I bought this Protein Powder because it is less costly than the Whey Powder that has been my normal purchase for years. I have it with my yoghurt and berries every morning, it mixes in nice and smooth with no lumps, tastes okay. Shall no doubt keep buying this one.

Really reate this protein powder, my teens like it in smoothies and overnight oats/weetbix. I love it with yogurt & chiaseed pudding or protein balls, its been a fabulous transition from our old protein powder. Good price too.

I have been using the whey protein for years and really like it but as I mostly use protein to stir through my porridge, I decided to try a cheaper option.
This protein is a bit thicker and maybe a little grittier in texture but works well for what I want and I will definitely buy it again.

I really should rate this horribly because it's damn good stuff and I don't want everyone to buy it all or the price to increase!

Milk protein is awesome because its 50/50 whey and casein, therefore balanced fast and slow digestion. You might add a third scoop if using it for post workout recovery, just so you get the benefit of a good serving of rapidly absorbed whey in the immediate post-exercise window.

Mixes pretty well all things considered, but is thicker than pure whey because of the casein content. Just add a bit more water as required.

Easy to drink.

Slow release casein makes for great satiety and long-burn aminos in your blood. Great for night time and breakfast.

Value Protein is a cheaper alternative to whey. Seems like a good product for the budget conscious with much the same benefit as whey, but slower digesting. It does fill you up a bit more than whey, so bear that in mind.

Gave this one (vanilla) 4 stars because you cant beat the price. But it mixes very thick in milk and is a little grainy and very foamy. Also quite sweet.

Good product for money though, but dont think id buy it again for my everyday shakes. Maybe will go good in a smoothie.

Look it's definitely a downgrade from there regular product, whether that's an acceptable tradeoff for you and the lower price is your call. The flavour is pretty good, it just gets quite thick and requires extra water to thin it out.

Very good value for money. Love the vanilla flavour over the chocolate but my only grip is it a few less grams of protein per serve compared to the chocolate flavour that's no longer available NZPROTEIN REPLY: that chocolate you refer to was a different product. This is a new one

Tastes a bit strange, kind of powdery and felt it doesn’t mix as well as the usual stuff. But I understand that Nzprotein are trying hard to keep the cost down so I appreciate it.

NZ Protein used to sell a great value whey protein in chocolate flavour that was my go to. I tried this one since it no longer appears to be in stock.
It doesnt mix as well, and to me it doesnt taste as good. But still great value. Id love if they could bring back the old chocolate value whey.

Tastes like very sweet milk (go figure). Thick and foamy, mixes completely in a few shakes, and affordable as. Probably a 6 or 7 out of 10 when it comes to taste. I'm surprised to be the first review for how seemingly good this is.

Please note that we will not be able to test every flavour due to the costs - there are simply too many flavours and various batches manufactured.
