Value Whey 1kg
Great Value For Those Who Don't Have Money Growing on Trees.Update: chocolate flavour now available per request. While stocks last.
Cheap Whey Protein NZ
This product is a value Whey Protein Concentrate (WPC). It's also New Zealand whey, but it's cheaper than our flagship New Zealand Whey. The main difference is that it doesn't mix or taste as good.
- It's also from New Zealand grass fed cows
- Nutrition & protein content - about the same as our other whey
- Mixing - it does mix, but not as well as our other whey. Chocolate mixes better than unflavoured due to the added cocoa
- Taste - it doesn't taste as good as our flagship whey - which is the best.
We have not flavoured it at this stage to keep the price down as low as possible. If you want great tasting then go for our other whey but if you don't care or want to flavour it yourself then this product will work well. Adding flavoured BCAA, EAA, or TrueFruit Flavouring will flavour it.
This is still a quality product and comparable alternative for those who don't have money growing on trees. The reality is that NZ milk products are expensive to buy.
We managed to pick up a bunch of it because it was going at a good price. While stocks last.
What is Whey Protein
Whey is a high quality protein powder that's rich in amino acids and Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs). It comes from milk this product is watery in texture (whereas the NZ whey is creamy in texture, which gives it a better taste).
Whey protein is fast digesting and easily absorbed by the gut. It's highly nutritious and, coupled with its concentrated amino acid profile, is one of the most beneficial dietary sources of protein for muscle growth and repair - especially for pre and post exercise.
Whey is the most popular supplement choice for athletes, fitness models, bodybuilders, and those wanting to lose weight or just add more protein to their diet.

Whey Protein Benefits
Powerful Muscle Builder
Whey is a complete protein with a concentrated amino acid profile and high amounts of branched chain amino acids that the body cannot produce and must be supplied from the foods we consume.
Amino acids are the building blocks of protein and muscle tissue, more commonly referred to as the 'building blocks of life'. Whey contains all 21 amino acids and also has higher levels of leucine than other protein powders. Leucine is one of the three branched chain amino acids and is primarily involved in muscle protein synthesis. Studies have shown it to be the most anabolic (growth promoting) amino acid for muscle growth and recovery.
Leucine also contributes to the regular of blood sugar levels, growth hormone production and wound healing.
Benefits whey protein may have for performance:
- Increased lean muscle mass
- Improved muscle repair and faster recovery
- Reduced break down of muscle during exercise
- Increased metabolic rate
Beneficial Nutrients
Whey is composed of several bioactive fractions including glycomacropeptide, β-lactoglobulin, α-lactalbumin and lactoferrin. These have health benefits against cancer, infection and inflammation.
Antioxidant Defense
Glutathione is a natural defensive antioxidant that the body produces from several other amino acids, especially cysteine. Whey protein is high in cysteine and studies have shown a relationship between whey and increased glutathione levels.
Blood Pressure
Various studies have found relationships between reduction in blood pressure and the consumption of dairy products.

Whey Protein Side Effects
Whey is generally well tolerated, but it is a milk product and contains lactose, so those with milk and/or lactose intolerances should avoid this product.
Vegans should avoid this product.

Our Verdict
Whey is a great protein powder because it has a concentrated amino acid profile and is absorbed fairly rapidly. It surpasses other proteins for bioavailability so is the best protein powder for post exercise for those wanting maximum muscle recovery/development.
This product is great value and is cheaper than our regular NZ Whey Protein.
It's a pity that NZ milk prices have become so high, but this is certainly a viable alternative.

Also, in a manual protein shaker bottle, pour a bit of water first, then protein, add teaspoon of cocoa or two and teaspoon of honey if you wish. You just need one cup of water for this. Close and shake well. Shaking time seems to be the same as another brand, so I am not sure what the fuss is about. If you want a meal replacement, then get something else. But if you're looking for a convenient way to add protein with no extra calories, this value option cannot be beaten. After trying 1 pack, I ordered 5 more as they do expire in 5 months, and I can't use more than this amount in this timeframe. I honestly hope Dave will keep this option for us who are not fussy and spoiled and want quality protein for bottom prices.
Great Value
Had no problems with mixing
Nice rich chocolate flavour
Would definitely order again
Highly recommend
Super fast shipping arrived the next day
Thanks N Z protein
Put it with some cold milk, shake well, and it goes down and treat.
The powder is super fine and need to be careful when scooping. Takes a lot of shaking to dissolve. Both taste very thin and not sweet compared to most whey on the market.
Unflavoured is basically diluted milk water. Nothing special, but nothing bad either. 5/5, considering the price.
Double chocolate has a rubbery taste with a slightly bitter and sour aftertaste. Very weried taste if with just water. I would probably leave gym straight away if I mix this with unflavoured creatine and drink. 3/5 considering the price. Maybe better if you mix it with something like coffee or or just use it as a protein add-in for food instead of drinking it straight.
Mixes well. Neutral taste. Good texture.
Dissolves really well, has a competitive level of protein and is very well priced.
The chocolate flavour is really authentic. Has this dark, rich flavour that is lacking in other brands. I use two scoops and do notice the artificial sweetener used but that's just me. The pros far outweigh the one con.
Definitely would buy again.
The chocolate value one is missing the creamy texture.
Only feedback is that I wish they made it in vanilla, choc isn’t ideal in my smoothly (that’s a me thing not a negative against the product - the choc is a good choc..)
Overall, it's cheap but probably not worth the hassle. Shows you how good the standard whey powder is!
All the best for 2026!!!
Warm regards
Jules ☺️
Thank you NZ protein!
When you wrote it doesn't taste as good as flavoured ones you should have said it tastes aweful. And it doesn't mix with the shaker, I need a blender.
I ended up chucking away in the rubbished, wasted $39.
Product was at a excellent price for my protein bakes.
Thank you.
The macros check out, the price is good, the taste is fine, and the texture is good also.
Wel... tbh, I bought a kg of this and a kg of the regular kind and mix them together one scoop of each. It's a really really nice drink that I'd drink even if I wasn't going to the gym. The sellers downplay it a lot but it's decent stuff.
Great consistency and I haven't noticed any difference from the normal whey protein range.
I always get vanilla so this range suites me perfectly
Looking forward to trying out Vanilla & Choc
Highly recommend this protein powder.
Still good taste and mix ability! Would definitely recommend if you would to save a few dollars👍🏻

Test Reports
Here at NZProtein we always strive to be the best at what we do. We invest heavily in research and development to have innovative products and the best flavours.
We stand firmly behind our products so we have commenced periodic batch testing of products by independent third party laboratories. These test reports will provide further evidence of the standards we adhere to.
Please note that we will not be able to test every flavour due to the costs - there are simply too many flavours and various batches manufactured. For example, in the NZ Whey alone we have over 20 flavours, so it is not practicable to test every flavour in every batch but we will periodically submit samples in various flavours for analysis.
